May is upon us and as we look
through the last part of the year the grade 9’s have quite a few upcoming
events that I thought I would take the time to share with you.
May 9th is the ELA
Part A – Written exam.
May 11th we will be
taking them to the Economics for Success course at SAIT. This field trip
is an opportunity for them to meet with individuals in the business world and
learn about financial planning. The forms will be coming home in the next
several days, but we will be looking for a couple of parent volunteers to come
along.
May 15 will be the launch for
the CASH project. This is the grade 9 cross-curricular project and the
students will be working to create a society. They will be working on this
project intensively every other day through its length. We work with the
students to promote proper organization, but this project can become quite
stressful so it is important for parents to be encouraging their children to
stay on top of their assignments so not to become
overwhelmed.
CASH will wrap up with a night
of presentations at the school on June 13th. We encourage all
parents to join us from 5-6:30pm to see what their child has been working
on. These presentations will be assessed, and are a required part of the
project. Should there be a conflict in scheduling it is important that
teachers are made aware as soon as possible.
The Grade 9 Triathlon will be
on May 26th
Grade 9 farewell will be held
on June 15th. More details will follow.
The PAT exams begin on June 22nd.
They will be written in the mornings for the final week. At this time
students should be reviewing using the website Quest A Plus, which contains
questions in all subject areas off previous PAT exams. As well we have
signed up for field testing future exams, so students will have a chance to see
similar questions over the next several months.
